Winter Adventures & Excursions

This page is for the powder hounds who live for chasing the snow. You can either be on the resort skiing and snowboarding epic terrain in Vail and/or Beaver Creek, or you could be out in the wilderness with snowmobiles and hut trips. It’s important to remember to be safe and prepared for extreme weather conditions anywhere you go. Nothing beats a blue bird day after a fresh snow fall!

ON THE MOUNTAIN

On Vail Mountain
Vail’s wide variety of terrain, back bowls, and 5,289 skiable acres are one-of-a-kind. Paired with pristine conditions, skiing Vail is truly like no mountain you’ve experienced before. Thanks to the magical combination of averaging more than 300+ days of sunshine and 370+ inches of snow each year, plus majestic, only-in-Vail views of the surrounding Gore and Sawatch mountain ranges, the phrase “Like nothing on Earth” comes to life before your very eyes.

On Beaver Creek Mountain
Beaver Creek Mountain is renowned for its stunning beauty and welcoming atmosphere, providing access to every level of skier. You’ll delight in the meticulously groomed corduroy runs as you explore 1,800 acres of terrain, as you dip into each of the three distinct base areas while discovering everything from steep terrain to access to excellent trees to glide through.

Local Tip: Accidents can happen, so know the level of the rider or skier you are with, and have a meet-up plan if you get separated. Avoid tree wells of deep snow at the base of trees and do not duck ropes that ski patrol has arranged.

10th MOUNTAIN HUT SYSTEM

An authentic way to enjoy the Colorado mountains is booking a night with the 10th Mountain Division Hut System, a series of shelters set in intervals in a triangle between Vail, Aspen and Leadville. The cabins come with cooking supplies, pre-cut logs to warm the huts in the wood stove, and decks with views that are breathtaking.

The 10th Mountain Huts is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that manages a system of 34 backcountry huts in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, connected by 350 miles of suggested routes. We provide a unique opportunity for backcountry skiing, mountain biking, or hiking while staying in secure, comfortable shelter.

The name honors the men of 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army, who trained during World War II at Camp Hale in central Colorado. Hut visitors share the special spirit of these individuals, especially their pursuit of excellence, self-reliance, and love of the outdoors.

Important safety tip: Wear the appropriate clothes and bring extra dry clothes, bring a heat blanket and sleeping bag, water, food, and do not go alone. If you become lost over night, dig a hole next to a tree or mini igloo/clave, and use your heat blanket and sleeping bag to keep your body heat insulated and away from the elements.
