What Not to Miss on Your First Winter Trip to the Vail Valley

If you are contemplating your first winter trip to the Vail Valley, don’t hesitate… buy the ticket, make the reservation, and here are some things you should add to you to-list while in town!

Whether you fly into Denver International Airport and take a shuttle East through the mountain passes, or fly directly into Eagle County Regional Airport, you will experience jaw-dropping views and a slight rush of adrenaline as you enter the mountains.

Let’s start with the outdoors.

One of the best things about skiing or snowboarding at Vail or Beaver Creek is that they offer plenty of trails suitable for skiers of all abilities. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Vail and Beaver Creek have something for everyone. If you are a beginner both mountains have their beginner terrain, i.e. “the bunny hill,” on top of the mountain so you can enjoy the views while learning. If you are a more advanced skier don’t miss Vail’s back bowls and Beaver Creek’s Birds of Prey race course.

Adventure is next.

If you want to get off the slopes for a day, look into a snowmobile tour with Nova Guides. They will pick you up at your lodging and drive you to Camp Hale where the 10th Mountain Division trained for WWII. They offer half-day and full-day excursions. This is an adventure you’ll remember for a long time!

Arts & culture shouldn’t be missed.

Take a quick trip over to Beaver Creek and enjoy the Vilar Performing Arts Center. You can find performances from music, to ballets, to comedians, to musicals, in the most intimate performing arts center around.

Dining & nightlife is a must.

After a day of skiing and exploring the area, sit down for Après-ski happy hour – a long standing tradition which encompasses music, food, and drinks to kick off the evening. After crossing the iconic bridge over Gore Creek on Bridge Street, stop at the 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirits, and try some of their locally crafted Whiskey or Spirits. Then move on up Bridge Street following the music to The Red Lion for some lively entertainment, or relax in the Kings Lounge at the Sonnenalp for music and fireside entertainment. Next up, head over to the Four Seasons’ Remedy Bar for the ultimate hot chocolate experience. Their famous Haut Chocolat is a decadent drink and the presentation will amaze and delight!

Dinner recommendations: El Segundo is a go-to for some fun semi-traditional taqueria style food or enjoy Vendetta’s, an iconic Italian restaurant and the best Pizza in Vail. Want something a little fancier? Up the Creek has a menu sure to please all using local and sustainable ingredients. Or check out Matsuhisa for Chef Nobu’s new-style Japanese cuisine. And you can’t miss dessert – stop by Sweet Basil for their Sticky Toffee Pudding… you will be back, I promise!

Late-night fun can be found at Deca + Bol with a bougie bowling experience.

Let’s finish with spa & wellness.

You may need some relaxation and wellness after a day or two on the slopes, so indulge in a a massage or treatment, taking a yoga class, taking a polar plunge soak, or just sitting in a salt room. From all-inclusive to Alpine-inspired you will find relaxation at any of the following spas: The Spa at Gravity Haus Vail, The Spa at the Grand Hyatt Vail, Well & Being Spa at the Hythe, or Spa Anjali at the Westin Riverfront.
