Dog’s Paradise – A Vacation Guide that is Pet Approved

In the Vail Valley we have all the things dogs (and humans) love: hiking, dining, swimming, adventures and relaxation!

Below you will find a lists of restaurants, parks and trails that are all pet friendly. Click here to see the list of pet friendly lodging options.

Restaurants – Keep in mind, even though some restaurants welcome behaved dogs to sit right next to you at your table. Other restaurants only allow your dog on the patio, or leashed, or on the outside of a patio fence. So make sure you follow up with their policies.

Dog Parks

  • Freedom Dog Park – Edwards: This “off leash” dog park gets the pawprint of approval. Loved by locals and visitors alike, you can take in mountain views while dogs romp on the lawn or take a dip in the pond. Note: this dog park is not fenced in.
  • Nottingham Park – Avon: This park is fun for all! A paved path circles Nottingham Lake, where you will encounter sunbathers on the beach, volleyball players on the sand court, stand up paddle boarders, bikers, skate boarders, jungle gym climbers, hammock swingers and soccer players. This park is a feast for your pup’s senses. Since it is mixed-use, dogs are required to be on leash with the exception of one off-leash area.

Trails
Most trails allow dogs either under voice command or on leash. Some favorites are listed below. When you hike with your dog, keep in mind their ability level, just like when you hike. Hiking at altitude can be difficult and often involves steep hills or significant elevation gain, combined with a lower oxygen concentration. If your dog is not in tip-top hiking shape, it’s best to start with beginner trails. Consider the temperature, shade, proximity to water and difficulty. Remember to bring water for you and your dog to hydrate – and always clean up after your dog. In Beaver Creek, dogs are allowed to upload and download on the gondola. However, in Vail, dogs are not allowed to upload the gondola, but if you hike to the top, the gondola is free to download with your dog.
