Leaders from the NAACP, Benjamin Jealous, and the National Council of La Raza, Janet Murguia, will discuss the complicated story of race in America. As president and CEO, Janet Murguia has sought to strengthen the National Council of La Raza's work to harness the power of the nation's nearly 50 million Hispanics and improve opportunities for Latino families. Serving as the voice for the Hispanic community on issues such as education, health care and the economy, Janet has been recognized for her work on numerous occasions, including being amed one of Washingtonian magazine's "100 Most Powerful Women in Washington" and named to People en Espanol's "100 Most Influential Hispanics". Since 2009, Benjamin Todd Jealous is the 17th president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the youngest person to hold the position in its nearly 100-year history. During his career, he has served as president of the Rosenberg Foundation, director of the U.S. Human Rights Program at Amnesty International and executive director of the National Newspaper Publishers Association. A graduate of Columbia and a Rhodes Scholar, Ben is a board member of the Association of Black Foundation Executives and a member of the Asia Society. A portion of this program is made possible through the support of the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
